Today was one of the rare, slow days that was afforded the members of the Inquisition. It wasn't often that Elas was given free time, with all his Inquisitorial duties, but Cole was glad that when he got the chance, he typically elected to join him up in his spot in the rafters.

Right now, they were sitting near the third story's railing, Cole sitting cross legged beside Elas as he dangled his skinny legs over the edge through the bars. Their conversation was casual, but Cole was listening closely for any sign of distress from Elas, anything he could try to heal. He knew that bearing the weight of the Inquisition, making it something real, wore heavily on the elf, and he hoped more than anything that his company was a help to him, especially after everything Elas had done for him.

"I like rats," he says, idly, watching as one scuttles across the floor into a hole in the wall, "They only take as much as they need."

I'm inside the matrix

Elas gave a weak smile. He's so appreciative of Cole's company. It made stress of being responsible for the entire Inquisition easier to cope.

"They are such innocent creatures. Most find them as pests and try to rid them."

He couldn't really understand why so many people want harm to them. They try to exist peacefully with others, he only saw it fair to leave them alone. Everyone is a survivor. Everyone wants to be treated equally but they don't want to treat others the same. He knew this, being a Dalish elf who seperated from his clan. He knew the unjustice he gets for being who he is. Mages being treated like pests. Elas saw it all, and now he's going to do his best to change that with the Inquisition.

His life was turned for the better meeting the Inquisition, mark and all. He's been given an oppurtunity through the friends he met, especially Cole. Cole never made Elas feel he didn't belong. He even has his own quips to battle which Elas will do everything he can to support. There's no one in the Inquistion quite like Cole. He's an oddity with well intentions. Not many know Cole the way Elas knows. He's a person. He's not some rogue fade demon or possessed husk. Cole is a friend, one who understands and listens, that's more than Elas could ever ask for.

"Cole, I just want you to know..I-I, uh-"

His voice cracks. Elas's face goes red, he always gets this way talking to people, even Cole. The elf is stumbling to find words to speak. Simple compliments are the hardest for him, he's not used to expressing them.

"Ah-I think you're a really great addition to the Inquisition! A-and I like talking to you."

Elas looks away and tries to avoid eye-contact. He's embarassed and panicking, this always happens but he's used to it. He keeps his eyes focus on the rats, mellowing to sounds of pitter-patter on the wooden beams. He found it all soothing.

I have a shark in my bathroom.

Elas gripped Cole's hand, firmly.

He feels real.

The elf felt himself calming down. Listening to Cole's voice, he regained composure and was no longer in a state of panic. Cole always had this influence, it puzzles Elas why he can do this but goes along.

Elas gave a more prominent smile. Cole's words really touches him.

"I'm glad too"

Elas leans his head against Cole's shoulder. He's at peace in this moment and never wants it to end. The thought of spending a future with Cole fills him with such joy. Perhaps take their friendship further. He's felt this way for so long. He trusts Cole, with everything, but self-doubt still plagues him.

I can't let this defeat me. I need to be stronger.

Elas's delicate fingers interlaced between Cole's, noticing how slender his own are. Elas pondered how adorable it looked before realizing he was actually physically touching Cole. He starts to blushing again, thinking how forward he must seem. He doesn't want to make Cole uncomfortable or take him by surprise but he feels the need to tell him about his true feelings. All his life, Elas would runaway when anything got to real. Constantly running away from his feelings, running from people because of fear. He knew he had to brave his shyness. He couldn't let something this wonderful escape again. Whether he gets rejected or not, he owed it to himself to at least try.

Suddenly fighting those fade demons seemed not so scary, Elas thought. Shooting arrows at Shades are a piece of cake compared to talking to people.

Elas gathers his courage, he lifts his head and turns to Cole.

"Cole...I-"

He immediately shoots his sight away, his heart feels like it's swelling tenfold.

You can do this, C'mon.

He mentally psyches up and returns his gaze back.

"Do you believe that maybe...We can be more than just... 'friends'?"

Elas winces at his own embarassment. What has he done.
